Peoples State Bank Marks Its Second Anniversary in Utilizing Biometric Check Cashing Services Provided by U.S. Biometrics' CheckQ System

NAPERVILLE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2006--Peoples State Bank, located in Madison Heights, Michigan is a prime example of how biometrics is revolutionizing the way that banks conduct business. As an early adopter of biometrics, Peoples State Bank has had U.S. Biometrics' CheckQ system in place for the past two years. CheckQ tracks an individual's transaction history for check cashing and credit card advances. It compares a check casher's fingerprint to digital templates stored in the national database and confirms a positive history or flags a potentially fraudulent transaction. While many banks do require a fingerprint when cashing non-account holder checks, those systems are usually based on ink and paper and are in place to be a reactive deterrent. CheckQ is proactive in that it provides a transaction history of that fingerprint - regardless of the name - to the institution BEFORE money exchanges hands. The system captures and compares digital fingerprint templates and has a robust reporting system allowing institutions to study their check cashing business.

Peoples began their relationship with U.S. Biometrics back in May, 2004 with a pilot program at three locations. Within two weeks, Peoples decided to deploy CheckQ to the remainder of their branches. "We have been extremely happy with the performance of CheckQ. It has accomplished the original goal of reducing the chance of check fraud but it has also proven to be a tool of convenience by moving our non-account holders through our lobby in a timely and efficient manner," states Dave Wilson, Chief Financial Officer at Peoples State Bank.
